Biography
Hanne studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Wim Henderickx and Luc Van Hove. Beside composition she also studied Bass Clarinet and Piano. In her second year she was a laureate, with her first orchestra work Mitä, in the Aquarius composition competition. Mitä was created by the Beethoven Academie conducted by Jan Caeyers. Hanne composed for different chamber ensembles such as Oxalys, I Solisti del Vento, Enigma ensemble, Hommages ensemble and the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Flanders. In 2004 the Flemish Radio Choir and Jan Sciffer created Purgatorio and in 2006 Rana, music for bass clarinet and piano, especially written for Jan Guns, was created in Nagoya, Japan. In the summer of 2006 her first string quartet, Axon was created by the Quince Quartet at the Festival der Voorkempen.
At the moment she is writing a City opera in collaboration with Dimitri Leue. In 2010 Hanne is “composer in residence” of HERMESensemble. The National Orchestra of Belgium has also commissioned her with a new work for orchestra.
Hanne cherishes yet another passion as well : through art she has been trying to help gifted children belonging to deprived groups. In 2003 she earned an award by the Koning Boudewijn Foundation for her work with highly gifted children. In 2006 she started as a music therapist. Presently she also teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
After a year of intense coursework in psychology at the University of Brussels (VUB) she started as a music therapist in 2006. Since 2007 Hanne has been teaching at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, while concurrently writing a doctorate in the Arts on community opera.
